Since 2010, on the initiative of the Heritage Platform of Kunsten '92, a national prize has been awarded to the municipality with the best heritage policy. The BNG Bank Heritage Award encourages municipalities to actively invest in cultural heritage, also to strengthen policy areas such as tourism, culture, education, social affairs, spatial development and the economy.
The jury designated Weert as the winner because this municipality has a clear heritage vision in which sustainability and climate adaptation are paramount. The municipality tells an integral story, in which a conscious choice has been made for perception. Plans initiated long ago have been consistently implemented and are now bearing fruit. The community is very directly involved. The municipality of Roosendaal won the Public Award 2023.
